IIT Madras, India's premier Engineering Institute, is renowned for its excellence in education, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and industrial consultancy. Established in 1959 with German collaboration, it proudly holds the title of Institute of Eminence. It has been ranked as the nation's top engineering institute (1st in NIRF ranking) for the past 7 years in the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) rankings since this ranking system was announced in 2015, by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). IIT Madras is a residential institute with nearly 550 faculty, 8000 students, and 1250 administrative & supporting staff and is a self-contained campus located in a beautiful, wooded land of about 250 hectares. IIT Madras, located next to the biodiverse Guindy National Park, is home to abundant and diverse flora and fauna, including the endangered blackbucks, making it an ecological island outside protected areas.
